Road Trip to the Great Lakes region-Getting There

We had some friends getting married in the middle of September on the peninsula outside of Green Bay, WI. Since we wanted to attend the wedding and I haven't been in any of that region before we decided to turn it into a 10 days of road trip adventure, sight seeing and visiting a couple relatives. We left Thursday evening after work and made it about half way across NE the first night, then pushed the next day to make it to the Northern part of Milwaukee, with a long stop in Madison to check out the campus/area. Saturday was the wedding and it was a relatively short (4 hours) drive from Milwaukee to our campsite near the wedding area.
A map of our second road trip in less than 2 weeks taking us up to Wyoming, through Nebraska, across Iowa, catching a corner of Illinois into Wisconsin, up to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, over to Minnesota, back down through South Dakota and Wyoming.

Our general rule with road trips in not to drive longer than 5 hours before making a major stop, which is also about how long it takes for the suburban to use up a tank. We found this playground in a tiny town in Iowa and spent an hour or so playing and having a couple treats. Rachel was so funny on the Merry go round, she flew off once and no matter what she did, her little body would whip around those poles to find some way off of it

Caleb was a great pusher, and burned a lot of energy doing so

They climbed and swung, and slid and ran until we had to get on the road again

Fun times going down the slide

Back on the road, crossing the Mississippi River into Illinois for about 30 seconds before going into Wisconsin

Rachel racing to the beach on the shore of Lake Michigan near Milwaukee, our first Great Lake experience...except for Doug anyways

Wading in the cold water

Collecting all sorts of treasures

We must have been going through during a monarch life cycle, the shores were littered with dead butterflies
